Description

Boy I was shaped for the fury
Now I pay the price
Of the human race's vice
And I was promised
The glorious ending of a knight
But the crown is out of sight

I'm slowly drifting into slumber
Cause I have lost the force to fight
It's like a cold hand on my shoulder
I'll see you on the other side

physical description
corvinus is very much built like a cheetah with the markings of a tiger. His body is narrow and slim, though his paws are slightly larger than the average cheetah's, and his claws are retractable. unfortunately, since claws are a huge part of the reason cheetahs are so quick, corvinus isn't as fast as a typical cheetah would be. since he is so thin, though, he's also not nearly as strong or powerful as a typical tiger. corvin has struggled to figure out exactly what his strengths are as a fighter, since that's all he's ever known.

about

personality
    || ambitious || blunt || cynical || compulsive liar || eccentric || introverted || intelligent || pessimistic ||
ambitious
less so now that he's not in massilia anymore, corvin is extremely motivated to do something with his life. he believes that he was always meant for something great, which usually equated to being a good bounty hunter. spending time not doing anything makes him anxious and itching to do absolutely anything.
blunt
always count on corvin to tell it how it is. he won't sugarcoat anything for you; if he thinks that new piece of armor looks horrid with your fur color, you'll know it, usually without even asking his opinion. some may appreciate his level of honesty, but others may notice that he's only blunt about dreary situations, which comes off as very negative for some.
cynical
corvin doesn't trust a lot of cats. it's unknown as to why this is, seeing as he's never had any real troubles with betrayal or any situation involving trust, but his distrusting nature exists anyways. corvin sees trust as something to be very careful with so you can avoid getting hurt at any cost.
compulsive liar
his lies are so miniscule no one may ever notice. sometimes he catches himself lying about the stupidest things, like where he went out for his walk that morning or if he had eaten anything lately. he's sure it has something to do with the lack of trust he has for anyone, but he can't help it. lying almost comes easier than telling the truth, especially for small things.
eccentric
always up for a challenge, corvin will do anything in his power to complete tasks in the most creative and unorthodox ways possible. others might deem it strange, but he believes taking risks and trying new techniques will lead him to be a skilled hunter one day. (that is, if he ever becomes one)
introverted
a byproduct of recent events in his life, corvin doesn't like to talk to others much. he'll keep to himself as much as possible, especially around his father and caelina. he often doubts his choices in life, and would prefer to spend his time brooding over his past than socializing.
intelligent
in another life, corvin would be a brilliant scholar. always trying to find new answers and possibilities, there is very little that doesn't pass through corvin's mind. he considers everything, every possibility, plus some. in the large amounts of time spend alone, he likes to sit and stare out over the landscapes and just simply think.
pessimistic
'glass half empty' kind of guy. rarely will you find him being positive and hopeful; he likes to keep his expectations low so he'll always be either correct, or pleasantly surprised.

biography
[ A BLEAK CHANCE ]

Corvinus was born to two Bounty Hunters, a melanistic black tiger named Thanatos and a cheetah by the name of Milla. They were both mostly loyal to the Bounty Hunters and their cause...but just mostly. When Milla discovered she was pregnant with Thanatos’s cubs, she took her first daughter, Keiko, and ran away from Massilia to her brother, Abiola, the leader of Lightning Empire, not wanting her cubs to have to live through the same hell she endured when she was young. She left her escape a secret to Thanatos, knowing that he would force her to stay if he found out. Abiola, scared of what his Empire would think of his Bounty Hunter sister and niece, hid them in Lightning Empire’s territory to keep them safe until the cubs were born. However, Abiola was murdered by the Bounty Hunters before he told anyone about his sister hiding in his territory, so Milla only had Keiko to help her when the time came to give birth. As fate would have it, Milla died shortly after birthing three cubs.

Keiko, terrified and confused, left with a dead mother and three newborn siblings, cried. At some point, a Lightning Empire Gladiator discovered the makeshift den. The Gladiator was of course Scion, none other than Thanatos’s brother, and uncle to the three newborn cubs. Keiko was scared of this huge tiger, and she ran. Scion stayed to watch over these newfound cubs, trying to figure out what to do with them.

Keiko didn’t know where she was going, but she consequently ran into Thanatos doing a solo patrol. Thanatos managed to calm the young cheetah hybrid and tell him that Milla’s cubs were born in Lightning Empire and there was another tiger that found them. Thanatos, scared for Milla and his cubs, ran to find them.

Scion had decided to take the cubs back to Lightning Empire with him, but Thanatos found him taking the cubs. The brothers fought for the cubs, and Thanatos managed to get them...but not all of them. Unbeknownst to Thanatos, one of the cubs was left in the den, where Scion went to find her, taking her back to the safety of Lightning Empire.

Thanatos returned to Massilia with his two offspring, two sons he named Augustus and Corvinus.

[ A HARD FUTURE ]

As Corvinus, oftentimes called Corvin, grew up with his brother, Augustus, he realized how much of an importance his father was to the Bounty Hunters, the humans, and the entire city of Massilia. He never really wondered where his mother was, where he had come from, or anything. All he cared about was making his father proud, and making sure everyone knew he was the son of the greatest Bounty Hunter in Massilia.

Corvin became cold, but still open. Merciless, yet he appeared caring. He became a Bounty Hunter. Only five months old, and he was already in the mindset of a crazed Hunter. It is suprising to see how little cubhood there is in places of war. Corvin felt the brunt force of this horrible disease, and at such a young age. His head was corrupted and twisted, and, unfortunately, he didn’t know any different. Maybe, as he ages, he’ll understand that it isn’t always necessary to do whatever you want to get to the top, and that there are always consequences to the choices one makes.

[ A FATEFUL NIGHT ]

When Corvin was finally an apprentice, he was immediately thrown into a war. The Empires were preparing an assault on the city. He was to prepare to fight for his life, like no apprentices had been trained before. He was assigned a tough, retired old Coliseum fighter as a fighting partner, a lynx named Straff. Straff and Corvin got along well, mostly because Corvin was always trying to please him. Straff rather liked someone looking up to him so much, so it was rare to see the two apart after training sessions. Straff would take Corvin to gatherings with all of the older trainers, the retired Coliseum fighters, all of Straff's friends. Corvin learned a lot from them, a lot about how to fight and how to survive. In some ways, the gatherings were far more useful than fighting sessions.

Not enough, though, to prepare him for what was to come. The war started on a rainy night. Thanatos had put him in the patrol in charge of guarding the captured felines. Corvin hadn't seen the point. The Elites and Hunters would never let the Empires get that deep into the city, anyways, so what was the point of putitng a patrol in the dead center? At least, that's what he thought until one of his comrades discovered a dead human guard and an empty room that had once held a family of prisoners.

Corvin immediately knew something had gone wrong. When the patrol had determined that there were no other Empire cats in the area, Corvin bailed. He had to go find Augustine. He had to make sure he was alright, and then they had to go find their dad.

Augustine was on a patrol guarding a sewage entrance that the Empires were apparently going to take. The fight had already begun. Corvin avoided the brawling cats; he just wanted-- needed-- to find his brother. Eventually he got his attention, and told him that they needed to go and find their father, because there was something horribly wrong, and the Empire cats had already broken through to the captured felines. Augustine hesitantly agreed to abandon his post.

Thanatos found them first; he was with Caelina. They were both covered in blood, alone in the streets. The moment Corvin saw them, he knew something was wrong. They had a dead look in their eyes, and they were both not saying anything when the boys asked what was wrong. They just kept saying, "Come on, we need to go to the docks. We need to get there, quickly." At some point, other cats slowly joined them, Corvin's best friend, Cosette, and her brother Helios among them. Sylvannas, a Coliseum trainer who was very close to being a Bounty Hunter herself. Thanatos broke off from the group for a short while, then returned leading two cats that Corvin didn't recognize, a nameless snow-white serval, covered in wounds and blood and looking confused beyond recognition, and a young cougar cub without a word to speak. Corvin was confused, but didn't question anything. He didn't know that his new family was slowly forming, emering out of the rain, covered in blood and scarred with memories that would never fade. His new family, built upon the murders of the ones they loved.

As they reached the docks, Corvin had a premonition as to what was happening. They were running away. Thanatos informed him that Scaeden had been killed, and they needed to go to Rome. Corvinus wasn't sure why exactly they had to run, but he had never questioned his father before; why now? He was shocked when Augstine told Thanatos that he wasn't coming, but the thought of being away from his father was unthinkable to Corvin. Augustine was told to make up a story of their deaths, and Corvinus didn't realize how cowardly the whole situation had been until he he was well off at sea, far from home, already set in course to a new city.

When he and his new family reached Rome, they didn't stay in the city, as Corvin had expected they would. They snuck straight through, right out into the wild to live as Empire cats. Immediately, Corvin lost any last bit of respect he had been holding onto for his father. They were nothing more than Empire trash, the very cats that Corvin had been bred to hate. What would they think of him now? Augustine, Straff...even Scaeden. What was he thinking of them? The ghostly serval claimed she could talk to him, that she could see him walking beside them, but Corvin didn't really believe her. If Scaeden really was with them, guiding them, why would he guide them here? Why wouldn't he want them to stay back in the city and fight for what he had died for?

They established their new life in the old ruins on the cliffs overlooking the sea, south of the city of Rome. Even though at first Corvin hated it, Cosette and Helios and Cola tried to make the most of it, and the least he could do was try to enjoy those parts of it for them. Maybe one day he'd like it out there.

training & mentors
    massilian bounty hunters
-- as a bounty hunter apprentice in massilia, corvin was trained by all of the hunters, and often trained in 'classes' with the other apprentices. most of this training was patrolling, learning the city's layout, and basic bounty hunter living ettiquite.
straff; sparring partner; retired coliseum lynx
-- straff was assigned to corvin as his sparring partner. because straff had lived his entire life fighting in the coliseum and survived to be an old age, he was granted relieve from the vicious life of a fighter to live as a well-looked after, well-treated feline of massilia. often, this meant he had the opportunity to train young bounty hunters in the art of fighting. straff was surprisingly unscarred, considering his brutal history, and had a sort of silent, gruff dominance that corvin admired. corvin and straff got along quite well, likely because of how well corvin took to straff's personality, and straff's respect for the apprentice's determination and ambition.

    strengths
-- sticking to plans, ambition, improvising, making quick decisions, moving fast for long periods of time

    weaknesses
-- planning, strategics, interpersonal interactions, physical strength

    facts
-- corvin can't move as fast as a full-blooded cheetah due to his slightly larger paws, thicker legs, and ability to retract his claws.
-- corvin's cloak is used mostly for warmth; rome is cold, and corvin has a thin cheetah pelt.
-- eventually, corvin's mane will disappear.

rp example

I’m pretty melodramatic by nature, and I know this. I’m aware. I’ve been told. By my brother and my best friend, and countless others, and it might be my most defining character trait. I like to think of it as contemplative, though. I’m not melodramatic because I’m trying to be a downer. I’m just thinking, and thinking makes you realize a lot of shitty things in the world, and then when you start thinking about just how shitty those shitty things are, you’re left with one pretty melodramatic kid.

A few weeks ago, I would have never referred to myself as a ‘kid’. But after a lot of shitty things went down, I’m not so sure about myself anymore. Kids are oblivious and confused and don’t know a whole lot. Adults are smart and confident and strong and persistent. Before I was even a year old, I’d considered myself an adult, simply because of how much I thought I knew. Maybe I was never much smarter than my brother. Maybe I was always oblivious. But I was a worse kind of oblivious, because I was oblivious to my obliviousness. Double oblivious. I thought I knew. I thought I understood. I thought I was above my peers, that I was better than them, somehow. I deserved more. I’m the son of the leader. An heir of sorts, if you will. Admittedly, my brother was, too, but he didn’t seem to understand the sheer importance of it all. He didn’t get how much weight was on our shoulders, how much the other cats expected of us. Maybe he knew, but he didn’t care. Or maybe I was just worrying myself. Maybe no one ever expected anything out of me. Maybe no one ever even noticed me. Maybe I had been worrying for no reason whatsoever.

Maybe I was always meant to be the coward, and everyone knew except me.

I was just a scared and confused kid.
